K-DEX 2025 Exercise Sharpens Kelantan's Disaster Response Capabilities

Emergency services and healthcare professionals from across Kelantan recently converged at the Tumpat Training Centre for the Kelantan Disaster Exercise (K-DEX) 2025. The intensive two-day simulation, held on June 16-17, was designed to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance the state's readiness for major emergencies.

The comprehensive exercise was spearheaded by the Kelantan State Health Department ( Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Kelantan ) in a robust collaboration with the Hospital Pakar USM ( HPUSM), Fire And Rescue Department ( Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat ) , Airport Fire And Rescue Services ( AFRS ) and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force ( APM ).

The simulation saw the active participation of 54 front-line personnel. Teams of five, drawn from various hospitals including the USM Medical Centre, consisted of a medical officer, an assistant medical officer, a trained nurse, a healthcare assistant, and a driver. This structure ensured that the drill realistically mirrored the composition of a first-response medical unit.

Guidance and evaluation were provided by a team of 28 expert facilitators from the state's hospitals, led by the Head Emergency Specialist from Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II). Their expertise was augmented by 10 external facilitators from the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM ), who brought critical on-the-ground rescue knowledge to the scenarios.

The exercise was closely monitored by observers from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Kota Bharu Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS), ensuring that learnings could be shared and integrated across all of the state's primary response organisations.

The valuable lessons learned from K-DEX 2025 are expected to be instrumental in fortifying Kelantan's overall resilience against any future crises.
