Hosted in Kuala Lumpur, this 7-day intensive course which ran from 18-24 June , was a collaborative effort by the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health Malaysia, under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
The programme brought together medical officers from 12 countries to enhance regional preparedness and response to chemical incidents, with participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Timor-Leste, Malawi, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Turkmenistan, Palau, Nigeria, and Panama.
The closing ceremony on 24 June was graciously officiated by the Deputy Minister of Health, YB Dato Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni, who emphasized Malaysia's dedication to international safety.
In the words of the Deputy Minister:
“As part of the ASEAN Political Security Community Blueprint 2025, we must act to curb the spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction and enhance responses to accidental chemical releases. Malaysia remains committed to regional strength through knowledge sharing and skill-building in chemical incident preparedness and response.”
This initiative marks a significant milestone in strengthening global health security and fostering international partnerships.
